Spring Report 2024

– For the first time, the GCEE is publishing a Spring Report, which will consist of the Economic Outlook for 2024 and 2025 and an analysis of the freight transport in Germany focussing on infrastructure requirements and decarbonisation.

A strong recovery is still not imminent

– Economic growth in Germany is still characterised by sluggish demand. The GCEE expects GDP to grow by only 0.2 % this year and 0.9 % next year.

Accelerate decarbonisation of freight transport

– The deteriorating condition of the road and rail infrastructure hampers economic development in Germany. To decarbonise freight transport more quickly, government action should prioritise expanding a charging infrastructure for battery-electric trucks.

Spring Report 2024 to be published on 15 May

– On 15 May 2024, the GCEE will publish its Spring Report 2024, which will consist of the Economic Outlook for the years 2024 and 2025 and a chapter on sustainable freight transport marking the first step to a new publication timeline.

Cabinet will propose to reappoint Achim Truger

– The German Cabinet has decided to propose to the Federal President the reappointment of Achim Truger to the German Council of Economic Experts for a second term of office.

New publication timeline

– This year, the German Council of Economic Experts will publish its updated economic outlook for 2024 and 2025 on 15 May 2024. For the first time, a chapter of the Annual Report will be published with the economic outlook in spring this year.
