The German Council of Economic Experts (GCEE) and its scientific staff meet regularly with international organisations and delegations of foreign institutions. The purpose of these meetings is to exchange views on global economic development and current economic policy issues. Furthermore, the GCEE also explains its mandate, its organisational structure and how its reports are being prepared.
European Commission
There are different regular meetings with the European Commission: At working level, for example, specific issues are being discussed, positions are exchanged and reports are presented.
European Stability Mechanism (ESM)
Individual members of the German Council of Economic Experts present the annual report in a lecture to the staff of the ESM in order to exchange views on the contents and positions stated in the work of the GCEE. At the beginning of 2024 Veronika Grimm was there with members of the scientific staff.
European Central Bank (ECB)
The German Council of Economic Experts meets with the European Central Bank several times a year. The members of the Council of Experts exchange views with the Executive Board of the ECB and present the annual report. In addition, there are meetings at working level where specific issues are discussed.
Federal Reserve System (Fed), International Monetary Fund (IMF), Council of Economic Advisors (CEA)
Each year, after the annual report has been handed over, a member of the German Council of Economic Experts and its Secretary General travel to the US to meet various association and to discuss the report. In February 2023, Ulrike Malmendier and Niklas Garnadt met with the Fed and the IMF. There was a further visit in December 2023 with an additional meeting with the CEA.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
Each year, a member of the German Council of Economic Experts presents the annual report in a lecture to the OECD. Monika Schnitzer was there with Niklas Garnadt in February 2023 and May 2024.
Meetings with other Economic Councils
The German Council of Economic Experts regularly exchanges views with other Economic Councils whose mandate is similar to that of the GCEE. For example, there is a annual exchange with the CAE (Conseil d'analyse économique), which has also resulted in joint publications, for example on carbon pricing, as well as a policy brief in 2023 and 2024.
