Since May 2022, Niklas Garnadt is Secretary General of the German Council of Economic Experts. He joined the scientific staff of the GCEE as economist for macroeconomics in April 2019 and became Deputy Secretary General in April 2021. Prior he was a PhD student at the University of Mannheim, including an academic stay at Yale University in New Haven. In his dissertation he studies the interdependencies between firm creation and the macroeconomic environment. Between 2009 and 2013 he studied Economics at the University of Munich, the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. His research focusses on understanding the relationship between firm level decisions and the macroeconomic environment.
