On 14 September, the German Council of Economic Experts met with its French counterpart, the Conseil d’analyse économique (CAE), for a joint workshop in Wiesbaden. The workshop focussed on the urgent economic challenges of both France and Germany as well as the EU. On the one hand, the different transformation strategies for decarbonisation and the advantages of a joint European approach to the green transition - in particular in the energy sector - were discussed. On the other hand, the discussion focussed on fiscal policy measures in the energy crisis and the different long-term fiscal stance of Germany and France. Furthermore, the councils discussed possibilities for further cooperation, building on the joint work on the statement on the Inflation Reduction Act.
This statement is also the first project of the Franco-German Council of Economic Experts (FGCEE), which was revived at the beginning of the year. The chairs of the German Council of Economic Experts, Monika Schnitzer, and of the CAE, Camille Landais, lead the FGCEE as co-chairs.
