Monika Schnitzer receives honorary doctorate

On July 5, 2022, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) honored Professor Dr. Monika Schnitzer with an honorary doctorate for her great achievements in research and teaching, her commitment to policy advice, her dedication to science, especially as chair of the Verein für Socialpolitik, and for promoting evidence-based economic policy.

Professor Dr. Till Requate, Deputy Managing Director of the Institute of Economics, paid tribute to her scientific contributions to contract theory and to numerous, very different industrial economic issues as well as to aspects of foreign trade. As a current focus of her research, he highlighted her work on the economics of innovation, showing that competition has a positive impact on innovation, as well as her studies on the pass-through of VAT relief during the Corona pandemic.

Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) was founded in 1665 and has in the past awarded honorary doctorates to renowned personalities – such as John Maynard Keynes almost a hundred years ago (1925).
