On June 9, 2017, the AIReF (Autoridad Independiente de Responsabilidad Fiscal) hosted the second international conference of councils on economic policy in Madrid. It included participants from the councils of Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, and the Netherlands, as well as the European Fiscal Board.
Professor Christoph M. Schmidt, Professor Lars P. Feld, Professor Peter Bofinger, and Dr. Jochen Andritzky discussed three main conference topics with their colleagues: trade versus protectionism, the future of the European project, and possible implications for economic policies in the international institutional framework of a reversal in globalization.
Throughout the last years, the GCEE has intensified its outreach to researchers and institutions abroad to foster communication and cooperation regarding issues of economic policy. To provide a platform for this international exchange, the GCEE initiated the first international conference of councils on economic policy in Berlin in June 2016.
