Yesterday, the German Council of Economic Experts received the award „Vordenker 2018“ in Frankfurt. On behalf of the Council, Prof. Dr. Christoph M. Schmidt accepted the award that honors the Council’s work since its foundation in 1963.
„We honor the five Council members for their continuous advice to the Federal Government. The Council is an important voice of the social market economy“, said Prof. Dr. Jürgen Stark, chairman of the jury.
Dr. Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller gave the laudatory speech. She praised that the Council’s work has „long arose above pure academia to become the ordoliberal conscience of German economic and financial policy.”
The award was presented by Plansecur, a financial consulting company, and included prize money of 10,000 euros. The Council donated this amount to the „International Justice Mission“, an NGO with the mission to protect the poor from violence in developing countries.
