Volker Wieland received the ‘Public Service Fellowship’ from the Alfons and Gertrud Kassel-Foundation at the Goethe University Frankfurt on June 20. The award recognizes his achievements in linking aspects of scientific, political and social relevance in his research. It is endowed with 10.000 euros and was awarded for the first time.
Professor Herrmann Remsperger, Chairman of the Council of the Foundation of Monetary and Financial Stability, gave the laudatory speech. He characterized Volker Wieland as a pioneer in the area of monetary theory and monetary policy through his research on quantitative easing and the zero lower bound.
Founded in 2007, the Alfons and Gertrud Kassel-Foundation is dedicated to promoting science, research and teaching at Goethe University Frankfurt.
